This forum provides assistance and guidance to young Bahujan scholars to pursue higher education. We strive to create a space in Economics that is inclusive of historically oppressed communities in India. Our dream is to have higher Dalit and Tribal Women economists. The BE Team faced what other Bahujan students continue to face inside and outside university spaces in India—humiliation over affirmative action, alienating institutional spaces, and being discriminated against. However, we also received support from students, activists, scholars, and professors (most of them are a part of this group now and that is very encouraging), and these experiences made us realize the importance of having a support system for Bahujans. The reason behind naming the group Bahujan Economists is to assert our identities.
